I did some research and found some interesting things. In 1910 William Howard Taft was president, Ford introduced the Model T flivver, the boy scouts were founded, Mother Teresa was born, and the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series.
Around 100 years ago the average salary was $14.42 a week, or $75.00 a month, that was for a 54 – 60 hours a week. Today minimum wage is set at $7.25 an hour, average of $290.00 a week or $1260.00 a month.
Gold price was 20.67 an oz, compared to the price of 1093.30 an oz today. You could buy a loaf of bread for $.03 compared to $1.49 for a cheap loaf today.
Ford introduced the Model T Flivver, 4 cylinder, 20 horsepower, had a wooden body on a steel frame and sold for $850. Today you can buy a ford focus for about 15 thousand brand new.
A ticket to go to the movies was $.07, Today it ranges anywhere from $5 to $6. That’s a big increase.
I wouldn’t mind living a week or two in 1910 just to see what it was really like.
