If you know that you are going to miss the interactive hub of a campus or a classroom, don’t even think about signing up for a distance learning course. People who are not really particular about interaction can make good distance learning students. Distance learning lacks the social network that a campus or classroom has.

Some traditional universities offer distance learning programs to help students who are unable to attend their classes physically. You may be unable to partake of the campus experience of a particular school owning to personal problems. An online distance education affords you the opportunity to study whenever you want, wherever you want.

The Internet is one of the reasons why distance learning is still a possibility today. The practice has been around for ages, but it has been riddled with problems that had to do with the transfer of correspondence and security for tests. These challenges threatened the authenticity of the certificates that were so obtained, but the Internet at least makes one of these not so much of a problem anymore, leaving only one major hurdle to clear.

From 1964 through 1968, the Carnegie Foundation funded the Articulated Instructional Media (AIM) of Charles Wedemeyer. This introduced a lot of revolutionary communications technology to distance learning that was not there before, making it feasible for the rest of America to log in.

In distance learning, different methods are used for communicating between teacher and students. They are classified as synchronous and asynchronous. The previous suggests concurrent processes of learning and teaching; while the latter is evocative of a non-simultaneous procedure. Basically though, they refer to the types of technology in use, and how they are used.

The limitations of time and space can demand that asynchronous technology be used to transmit correspondence between lecturers and their distance learning students. Considering that it can be quite a hassle trying to get everyone around at the same time, there might be not better choice. Besides, this approach really is convenient.
